Champion Ingenuity
When Murph was younger, he enjoyed spending time with his family going
on fishing trips to New Hampshire and Maine. Later, he became an Eagle
Scout and received a letter of recognition from the US Federal Marshals
Service for being a great example to the community. Also at that time,
Murph learned to challenge himself with team sports like football in
High School with his old friend, Teddy Bruschi, and that's when
things really started clicking.
Murph transferred to Boston University in his junior year, and that’s
when he earned his challenging role as Wing Forward on the starting side
with the BU Rugby Club. That year, the team went undefeated to win the
New England Championship, 1990.
The following year on tour in the Bahamas, and having now become team
captain, Murph was enjoying a quiet moment at a beach-side lounge and
drinking his usual cool milk from a dirty glass when his pals “Woobie”
and “Scratty” came over for a chat.
As his friends were laughing and telling jokes, and the babes were out
playing in the sun, Murph began to reflect on something he was told back
in his earlier days. In that moment, Murph experienced a kind of quantum
leap, where the sum of all his experiences seemed to join together all
at once. Then with great zeal, Murph said to his buddies...“I’ve got an
idea!”
Back in Boston, he went underground with his new mission and worked
hours into the night and on weekends developing his pilot project. When
completed, Murph then mailed his invention proposal over to Warin Dexter
at BU, which was then forwarded over to Steve D’Marco at T’s Pub. Later,
it was delivered to the State of Massachusetts Senate Office of Ted
Kennedy. Ted liked it so much that he went to battle it with the boys in
Washington DC. Finally, Murph’s proposal made it all the way to the
Editor of the publication for "American Inventions".
Global corporations liked Murph’s idea, too, and they implemented it
into their Web architecture and database communications systems. NASA
used the idea to help further their spacecrafts into planetary
exploration around our solar system. The Red Cross made their own
innovations on Murph’s theme to help better feed the hungry in Asia,
South America and Africa.
Soon, Murph was appointed top level clearance and Ambassadorship with
the United Nations. At his Keynote Address to the World Summit
Conference held in Geneva, 1999, Murph spoke about his dreams and ideas.
He said... “When I was younger, it was suggested to me that sometimes
two heads are better than one… so why not two beverages at once? … and
don’t worry folks, we beat Harvard twice… I’m with the good guys”. And
then the crowd cheered and the whole world praised the name of John
“Murph” Murphy.
Today, Murph keeps up contacts with his pals both local and
international. You’ll see him at the BU Rugby Alumni reunion in
September, 2009, in New York City, where you can buy him a cool glass of
milk.
