T's Pub & Chris Cavalli
Initial Impact
This past week, a fellow Alumnus reached out to me regarding some
concerns he was having. He told me that with T's Pub now closed,
that suddenly the world appeared a bit more complicated.
Although this man is a professional and is involved with some highly
skilled endeavors, he's also a regular guy just doing his best to
love and care for his family. He'd been following the LenaVision
photos and Web pages and felt it was a good time to connect with me
and talk.
He began speaking about some of the people he'd lost along the way
and then shared some of his dreams he had when he was younger and
playing sports in college. We then talked more about his work and
his rapport with people all over the world. We even somehow touched
upon basic things like faith.
I did my best to listen and help to keep it going, and then he
finally directed the flow toward his champion times with BU Rugby.
He said, "Do you remember.. we won the rapport of the entire
university.. but somehow there's something inside me that believes
that maybe we were perhaps a bit off-kilter now and then".
"Hey Todd", he said.. "there are some Alums who remember you back in
the day as maybe behaving a little over the top at times.."
I responded by asking him, "you mean to say that some of our cast
wasn't completely dialed into my groove?"
I then suggested to him that when real opportunity
arrives at our door, like back at BU, it may be appropriate to push
the envelope a bit in order to achieve maximum results.
"For example".. I said, "what about the Giants this past year?" I
then said, "I'm sure some of their athletes have their own creative
ways of getting motivated.. and look what they achieved in return..
they won the big one and brought it all home".
He then said to me, "..I see what you mean... those guys were
unstoppable.."
I then said to him, "You and I may never fully understand all of
what has happened over the years, but the good news is that we're
here today and enjoying a cool conversation over the phone. Although
life sometimes isn't fair, when we do succeed through tough times we
are rewarded with champion character. Try to take time-out once in a
while to just be grateful for the fun stuff in life, like being a
part of our BU Rugby Alumni."
Thank you, Steve DiMarco and crew, for twenty-seven super years with
T's Pub.
We are truly grateful for all of the the awesome times!

Editor's Note
We've got more fun stuff on the way from LenaVision and BU
Rugby.com.
Cheers to Chris Cavalli ('92) for helping to keep it real all these
years. Let's all buy him a beer or two at the next Alumni Reunion in
'09.
A nifty note from
Wade Swormstedt
Really cool stuff! At some point, I would love to have a tribute
page to Donald Barker, who could be considered the BU Rugby Patron
Saint. He met us at the party after we played Harvard in 1979. We
got our asses kicked, but we won the party, and Mr. B laughed his
ass off.
He was on the BU Board and a proper English gentleman, and he saw in
us what we couldn't see. He pulled strings and got the university to
finance our trip to the 1980 Mardi Gras tournamentt, where we were
seeded 8th out of eight teams. We won the finals 26-4. For the year,
we ended up 17-1-1. Neiman Marcus had us model rugby shirts in their
store AND GAVE US A KEG OF BEER
Needless to say, those were different times. Eric Seiler, our
intrepid captain held together a rahter undiscliplined group. Chuck
Chinzi probably has the most photos, but Todd, I'll either have
someone scan them or just send them to you. A huge photo of us used
to hang in the Case Center, but I haven't been back in about six
years, so I don't know what has happened with the new Agganis
facility.
